Callaway Epic Flash

Thursday saw our first delivery of the new releases for 2019 and we weren’t disappointed to unpack a box jam packed with the latest fitting heads for the Callaway Epic Flash range.

It didn’t take long for us to start putting these through their paces in the studio, and the feedback was very impressive. Don’t take our word for it though…. these are demo and fitting heads so they’re here to be tried.

Either call into the range to have a hit, or better still give us a call and book a fitting in the studio.

John’s Roll-Up Group

PGA Professional John Brotherton runs a popular roll-up group every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year. At Christmas, John always organises a free, fun competition for anyone who has come to any of the roll-ups during the year.

In spite of the very chilly day, as you can see from the picture a hardy group all went out and enjoyed a 'relatively' stress free game.

After the game John warmed them up with hot drinks and bacon sandwiches and to top it off two ladies that come to the sessions brought in homemade cakes, sausage rolls and mince pies, so all in all it was a great morning.

John Brant won with 22 points and it was great to see that everyone was within 7 points of John and therefore a very close match, and it certainly shows that John's group sessions can definitely help your game.

Remember, the Saturday roll-ups are from 9 till 10 and the Wednesday roll-ups are from 10 till 11. If you are thinking of helping your game this year, there’s no need to book- just turn up and enjoy yourself. And these sessions are open to all adults of any ability.

2019 Club Competitions

Our member’s competition calendar for 2019 has been published on both the member’s noticeboard and also the Manston Golf Centre App.

The first midweek medal if fast approaching and can be played over 16th/17th January. Our competitions are open to all members with a current handicap, if you haven’t got anybody to play with please ask in the shop and we will try to connect you with a fellow golfer.

For 2019 we have a new competition which will be played for throughout the season, and will crown the most consistent golfer of the year with the top 6 scores returned in qualifying competitions between February and November being aggregated to give an overall champion!

Make sure you enter our competitions and like John you could get your hands on some silverware for the mantelpiece!

Rules news

New Rules For 2019

Many of you will no doubt read about the new rules that take effect from 2019. After much research and consultation these have been released in an effort to improve the pace of play and generally make the rules more modern and easy to understand. A summary of the key changes is shown below:

Please ask in the shop if you require any clarification on any rules aspect. One thing we would like to clarify is the introduction of allowing clubs to apply a local rule in the case of a ball that is lost or out of bounds, allowing a player to take a drop on the edge of the fairway with a two shot penalty rather than going back to where the original shot was played from and applying “stroke and distance”.

We have checked with CONGU who administer all handicaps and they are not recommending clubs implement this rule for “qualifying competitions”. Therefore to avoid any confusion we will not be applying this local rule in Manston Golf Centre competitions. However we would encourage all golfers to apply it in friendly matches to further improve speed of play.

Our App has been super popular since it was launched last year. Allowing you to book, order food, receive offers, benefit from loyalty rewards and get the latest news all on your phone.

It was therefore extremely frustrating when due to a change of 3rd party hosting company by the software developers we had a loss of usage during some of December. Happily all is now restored, but we must apologise for the inconvenience this caused.

If you missed out on any loyalty “stamps” please come and see us with your receipt and we will add them on for you.

Golfin' in the rain

If last year’s “Beast from the East” taught us anything, it’s that you definitely need a golf-specific rain jacket when you’re playing golf in the early months of the season.

Winter health check

A new year always brings with it a sense of renewed motivation when it comes to improving your golf game – and 2019 isn’t any different. So, before you head to the course next, go into the garage and give your equipment the once-over to make sure all is in order for the year ahead.
