Its getting to that time that comes around every two years, that's right, it's the start of the 2014 Ryder Cup! And better still, it's returning to Gleneagles in Scotland! The home of golf! Are the Europeans going to retain The Ryder Cup on home soil? Or are the Americans going to cause an upset this year? Well whatever the result is I'm sure that you'll agree that it will make for great watching as it is every time it's on! Good luck team Europe!

Beginners Club 2014
By the time you read this newsletter our 'Beginners Club 2014' will be underway for this month, but if you didn't get a chance to attend the FREE taster session on the 18th September, there is still time to join the session before the 25th September.
The Beginners Club is a great way to learn in a fun and relaxed environment whilst receiving professional tuition from our Assistant Professional Benj Vernon. If you join our beginners club, we'll also provide you with vouchers to use on the driving range and also the golf course but better still, we'll also provide you with some shop vouchers so you can grab yourself a bargain, what better way to start golf!

Senior and Ladies Roll Up Sessions on a Monday 
Are you over 50 and are keen to improve your golf?
If so David Vernon does a mixed senior class on Mondays from 9:30. This is a great way to learn in a fun and relaxed environment whilst receiving PGA tuition from one of our Senior Coaches. There is no need to book, purely just turn up on a Monday and ready for golf!
Also on a Monday Keely Chiericato holds a LADIES ONLY roll up session from 11am-12pm at a cost of just £10 per person, it's a great way to meet new people and receive professional tuition, what better way to learn? We do recommend phoning ahead to check that the session is on as due to playing commitments Keely may be away some Mondays.
Putting Clinic with PGA Professional John Brotherton 
On Saturday, 27 September between 12-1pm, John Brotherton will again be holding another clinic, but this month he'll be focussing on putting. So if you're struggling with your putting and confidence with your putter, then this is the clinic for you.
For just £20 you'll receive professional tuition from John as well as some handy tips that will help improve your putting and confidence, thus getting more enjoyment form the game.

The Beauty of a 9 Hole course Management Lesson
Under normal circumstances, if someone comes to me for a lesson it is usually because they have a problem and when it is fixed I don't see them again unless they develop another problem.
In an ideal world, I would see this person after they had the lesson and are starting to enjoy their golf again and recommend a 9 hole playing lesson to make sure they are swinging the same on the course as they are on the range, but also to give them a better understanding of course management.
It's important to keep an eye on these things as you wouldn't wait for your car to go wrong before you get it serviced, it's much the same with your golf swing!
The reason I bring this up is that I had a Chestfield member come down for some practice. We got chatting and I found he was not happy with his game and hadn't been for over a year. I gave him a single thing to practice and he then proceeded to book a 9 hole-playing lesson. After the 9 holes he was off to play a few days of competitive golf. I was interested to find out how he got on and this was his email reply;
"my halcyon days are back and my putting is a joy to behold".
It so happened that he won the second day of his competition! Congratulations Bernard and this is why 9 hole playing lessons are so important to have. (John Brotherton-PGA Professional)
Junior Golf Offers
Junior golf is hugely important to us here at Manston Golf Centre so this is why we have so many different offers to encourage junior golf. We currently have an introductory offer for our junior academy membership, usually it costs £89 per quarter, but we're doing it at just £44.50. Junior Coaching
Our junior coaching continues to go from strength to strength - if you're on the driving range on a Saturday or Sunday morning you can see some fantastic swings from children as young as 4! What's more they're all having a great time.
Our junior sessions are open to all children aged 4 years and over - no need to book just come along and get involved.

Junior Passport: Taking it to the Course
Every couple of weeks Benj takes a few of the juniors onto the golf course, to put their skills they've learnt in their sessions to the test. The last few times it's had to be cancelled due to the weather but we're pleased to announce that the next session will be held on Sunday, 21 September from 2pm.
If the weather isn't particularly good, then please phone ahead to make sure the session is still on.

2014 Owner-Pro Challenge
Throughout the next few months our PGA Assistant Professional Max Brackley is teaming up with the owner Michael Humphries to take on members over 9 holes on our golf course.
Since their first match, Michael and Max have played two further matches. Max and Michael proved hard work for this years Club Champion Barry Oakland and his playing partner Michael McCarthy as they cruised to a 2&1 win.
Up next was one of the strongest parings in the club; Summer Knockout Champion Len Olver and his playing partner Alan Taylor. Unfortunately they caught Max and Michael on a form day! Max started by holing a 20ft putt on the first for a birdie, but then decided to follow suit on the second. To make matters worse, Michael then joined the party with a superb 3 on the third hole and Max then continued the birdie run on the 4th putting them further in front. The pair finally put the game to bed on the 6th hole where Michael made a 3 Nett 2 to wrap it up 4&3 and play the first 6 holes in 5 under!! That's some golf! Congratulations to them both and well done to Len and Alan for putting up with that! Below are up to date results of their matches:

The £10 entry rolls over each time a pair fails to beat Max and Michael. After all matches have been played the winnings will be split between the pairs that succeed in beating them in form of shop vouchers.
